Four Westchester county residents who have gained national prominence and contributed to sports in Westchester have been selected for induction into the 2011 Westchester Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony to be held on Wednesday, October 12, at Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester.

Inductees for this year’s Hall of Fame are:

·  Champion rower Jim Eich of New Rochelle, a graduate of Blessed Sacrament who won the North American Schoolboy singles championship, and has won every major regatta in the U.S and Canada;

·   Mount Vernon High School basketball great Tony Fiorentino, who coached the Knights from 1978 to 1986 when the team had the state’s highest winning percentage. Fiorentino was an assistant coach for the Miami Heat and the Miami Sol, and has been a sports analyst for the Heat for the past seven years;

·   Golfer Meaghan Francella, a Port Chester native who won the ACC championship in 2003 while attending the University of North Carolina, and was runner-up the following year. She turned pro in 2003 and has had number top-10 finishes, and tied for 42nd place at this year’s U.S. Women’s Open;

·   Mount Vernon resident Rodney McCray, who won a state title in high school and an NCAA title with University of Louisville. He has played with the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and the Dallas Mavericks, winning an NBA title with the Chicago Bulls in 1993.

The four were chosen from a pool of 60 nominees. In order to be nominated, each must be a person of good character who has gained prominence in either professional or amateur sports as a player, coach, manager, official, owner, writer or broadcaster.

The Westchester sports Hall of Fame is sponsored by Westchester County Parks. The Hall of Fame plaques are on permanent display at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

The event is open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception, dinner at 7 p.m., and the ceremony at 8 p.m. Price is $75 per person and reservations are required. The deadline for reservations is Friday, September 30.
